In the sequel, Maggie learns much more about all the strange things that happened to her, and has to face new ones. She rebels against it, but ultimately, must face it for her new families sake and maybe even her life. Bish went from being her biggest supporter to her biggest pain in the butt and Kyle's intentions to attract her interest may not be so innocent. Caleb and Maggie face many new obstacles together and fight to work through them but will one that should be a good thing be too much for Maggie to handle?
This sequel is more of a continuation since it picks up right where the last one left off. Maggie is hiding out in California with her Significant Caleb and also her brother Bish and friend Kyle, Caleb's cousin, who are "babysitting". Maggie continues to be stalked by Marcus in her dreams. She also develops some new powers but Caleb has yet to develop his own powers. Caleb and Maggie continue to grow closer and even "Mutualize" which is their race's version of mind sex. lol Maggie receives the Jacobson's family tattoo and is the first human to ever have it. She has powers beyond what anyone was expecting and her and Caleb have a lot of work to do for the Aces. This book is a lot of relationship and powers development without too much action, but it was all necessary to see Maggie and Caleb grow into their powers and roles in the Ace community.
I loved getting to know Bish more in this book. He has had a difficult life and it was sad that Maggie had to keep lying to him. I also continually felt bad for Kyle. He had a lot of difficulties dealing with his feelings for Maggie but luckily he does meet someone in this book. I also like that although Maggie and Caleb's relationship is very intense, they had some more independence in this book. I didn't have to constantly hear about their need to touch and they don't have to "release" each other anymore. They can just take off and do what they want, when they want. Definitely curious to read the next book and see what happens when Maggie and Caleb had to the reunification, a huge meeting off all Ace families. These books don't really have conclusions. They just kind of end with no real wrap up and you pick right up with the next book.
"He pulled my face up with his hand cupping my cheek and kissed me on my trembling mouth. He smoothed his hands down my arms, my back, my hair, my cheek, soothing me.
“There’s a picture of you two in the dictionary under ‘get a room’,” Kyle said from behind me.
"Everything we'll accomplish, we'll do it together or not at all."
"I am so in love with you,” I told him.
He smiled graciously and pressed his nose and cheek to mine with a hand on my jaw.
“I'm so in love with you.”
“I know,” I said happily and smiled through the rain on my cheeks.
Rating: 4/5 Stars!

I love Shelly Crane!! Pick up Defiance as soon as you can. There is more action, more Caleb, and lots of tension.

ReplyDeleteI loved the first book in this series so much. I haven't yet had the chance to read this one yet, but now I want to even more. And I remember the Mind Sex thing, but I really must read this for myself. It sounds like it will at least be good for a laugh! A very hard laugh!
