Why the hell can’t chicks be more like guys? That question plagues high school senior Sam Cruz. Sam is perfectly happy being a player. He just wishes girls wouldn’t change the game from sex to relationships. It makes him look like an asshole. But when Sam’s best friend, Ally Klinger, gets dumped, she begs him to transform her into someone who can screw around then screw off. No risk of heartbreak that way. It’s Sam’s chance to create the perfect female AND cheer up his best friend. Armed with Sam’s Three Step Guide to Backseat Success, Ally gets the game better than Sam thought she would and before long, Sam has his wish: the female version of himself. Too bad it’s driving him nuts. Told from Sam’s and Ally's alternating POVs, Sam Cruz’s Infallible Guide to Getting Girls is a fast-paced YA romantic comedy that follows these teens as they navigate the minefield of sex, love, and friendship. This contemporary teen romance contains strong language, drinking, euphemisms, and lots of “bow chicka wow wow.”

Sam and Ally have been best friends all their life. Ally is a simple vegetarian and environmental activist with a vegan boyfriend. Sam is the player that believes in nothing but one night stands. When Ally gets dumped she has decided she is done with relationships. She wants Sam to teach her the ways of being hot, picking up guys, having her fun, and nothing more. No more relationships or feelings getting hurt. Sam agrees thinking if he can turn her into a guy then maybe there is hope for all girls to be like guys. Sex and no relationship.

I love when romances are told between alternating POV's. I loved both their personalities and seeing the story from each perspective. Sam's mom died when he was young and his dad has been out picking up girls so Sam kind of has an idea that he doesn't want to love and be left. He thinks like a true guy. Sex and more sex. Ally wants to change her role in relationships. She felt like a pushover with her boyfriend and now she wants the chance to take charge and get what she wants instead of always doing what the guys wants. She feels empowered with the changes Sam has helped her make. Everyone dreams of being the hot sexy girl that guys fall over themselves to get but that doesn't solve all your problems.

The problem is that as Sam gives Ally a makeover he realizes how hot she is and he always used to think of her as a sister. Now he can't get her out of his head. Ally begins to get guys but also realizes that she still wants a relationship. She just wants to be sure that she doesn't lose herself in a new relationships. She wants to keep her individuality. Then Ally and Sam give into their attraction and wonder if the friendship is ruined.

This was such a fun and cute story but I thought also had a lot of real life relationship dilemmas. I love best friend romances but I always understand that it is difficult to change a relationship because then you risk losing it. Sam really depends on Ally. He doesn't want to lose her friendship but sex has changed it and he isn't sure if it is for the better. Ally has changed too and she won't be a push over or go begging for a relationship. Sam will have to work for it.

"Teenaged  bros are dogs. We're walking, talking, idiots driven by sex and food. We bow before girls' much more complicated minds and don't get why they keep holding our nature against us."

"You love me?"
"What do you think this is all about? Pay attention, Brain."
He takes my hand and looks at me with the most serious expression I've ever seen on his face. "I love you totally and absolutely like I've never loved anyone before."

"You're the left brain to my right. The jelly to my peanut butter."
"The Buffy to your Angel?" Ally asks.
No way am I that namby bitch. "Spike."
"Angel."
I concede it with a grudging nod. "You're bossy, complicated, passionate, and I think you're the most amazing girl alive."

"Evolving is a process not a destination."

Rating: 4/5

Tellulah Darling noun Sassy girls. Swoony boys. What could go wrong? 1. YA romantic comedy author because her first kiss sucked and she's compensating. 2. Alter ego of former screenwriter. 3. Sassy minx. Geeks out over: cool tech. Squees for: great storytelling. Delights in: fabulous conversation. Writes about: where love meets comedy. Awkwardness ensues. Tellulah Darling is a firm believer that some of the best stories happen when love meets comedy. Which is why she has so much fun writing young adult romantic comedy novels. Her tales span contemporary, teen fantasy romance, and YA Greek mythology, and range from stand alone books to series. For Tellulah, teen romance is the most passionate, intense, and awkward there is – a comedy goldmine. Plus smart, mouthy, teen girls rock.
