From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane
The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers...and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind.
Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.
But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other.
I loved Pushing The Limits and Dare You To but I felt so bad for Isaiah! Beth and Ryan are great together but my heart really broke for Isaiah all throughout Dare You To. I was happy he was getting his own book and his own happily ever after. Isaiah is living with Noah and trying to finish high school and get a good job working on cars. Money is tight so he does something he doesn't like to do. He goes to find an illegal street race. There he finds a blonde, rich girl, Rachel, in way over her head and helps her out. It leads to danger and romance! LOL
Rachel is first seen to Isaiah as just a simple rich girl but her life is more complicated and broken. Her parents lost a daughter to cancer and ever since Rachel has been their new daughter which feels like being a replacement daughter. The whole family hides their problems and shields their mother. Rachel feels a lot of pressure to be the perfect daughter but she suffers from terrible panic attacks that she hides away. Most of the family is hiding problems. They look perfect but they are far from it. Rachel loves cars though and driving is the one thing that makes her happy. She decides to follow some guys to a street race one night and meets Isaiah.
Rachel describes Isaiah perfectly. I've always pictured him as this tough, hot, mysterious, scary, guy. But sometimes I forget he is just a teenage boy who hasn't had many people he can depend on besides Noah and Beth. He is heart broken over Beth and worried about bills and being able to continue living with Noah. When Isaiah sees that Rachel is in over her head at the street race, he doesn't hesitate to step in and help her even though he probably knew it was going to cause a lot of trouble. They became a team working on cars and getting out of trouble.
The romance is sweet and swoon worthy. Especially Isaiah's perspective. There are a few make-out scenes that really had me fanning myself. Loved the build up of their relationship. I did get a bit annoyed when Isaiah kept pulling himself back and then Rachel would also worry that she was too weak for him. They both felt like the other one deserved better but they realized that they both truly saw each other and the strength they had. It was also great seeing Noah, Echo, Beth, and even a little bit of Ryan again. Already excited for the next book which will be with Rachel's brother West. So many great characters that deserve their own story because I also would like one with Rachel's other brother, Ethan, and Rachel's friend Abby.
"Isaiah is hot and scary and hot. Why on earth would a guy like him want to be anywhere near a girl like me."
"A demand. Not a request or even a please. A demand. Like he knows he's all hot and mysterious and how I can't stop obsessing over him.
"I like who you are, Isaiah, and I like how you look at me. But what I really like is the rush that hits me when you're in the room."
