Violet and Nate may have escaped the labyrinth, but only one of them came out unscathed. Nate is now the bearer of a mysterious eye-shaped tattoo, a mark he has no memory of receiving. While Vi is intent on discovering the meaning of the tattoo, Nate seems less interested. His experience in the labyrinth has caused recurring nightmares, and he’d prefer to pretend none of it ever happened. But Vi has never been one to let a mystery go unsolved, and she’ll do whatever she can to discover who’s behind the tattoo—even if it means leaving Nate out of her plan. (A novelette)

First a very tiny little recap and summary of the series so far. Keeping it spoiler free for those that haven't had the pleasure of reading the first book yet.
Violet is a fae and guardian in training. When sent on an assignment to protect a human, Nate, Violet breaks all the rules when she accidentally returns to the fae world with him. Violet gets suspended from school and continues to see Nate in secret which is forbidden since he is human.

Violet's suspension is over and back to work she goes. Violet continues to kick butt and defend humans. She also heads back to school. I loved getting more into the world building of Violet's classes and the very nifty training scenarios and equipment. Also loved more Ryn, her sarcastic, funny, and highly entertaining competitive classmate who she continues to argue with. Their scenes are gold but no worries, absolutely no love triangle blooming here. It's all snark and hate but still so much fun. I am still hoping to learn more and more about Ryn as the series progresses. Violet tries to learn more about Nate's past and her parents while also continuing to hide her relationship with Nate. There were some interesting discoveries but I am still so curious about what exactly happened to her parents and why she is so determined to finish first in her class which she is now worried about since she missed a week during suspension.

Nate is still an adorable favorite of mine. His humor is always spot on but he was a bit reserved and weird during this book. All the info about his mom that just came out threw him more than he is letting on. Violet wants answers so she decides to try to track down whoever put the little whammy spell on Nate in the last book. What she discovers is an even bigger conspiracy. And later an even bigger shock. As the title suggests there is a traitor and it isn't who you would expect. *Gasp* Now I am really dying for the next one. This series continues to be quick but fun little episodes of romance, action, and humor. I am keeping it short and sweet just like the novelette but they are just the right size to be able to squeeze them into your reading schedule. Also I am loving the covers! All so pretty!

"Didn't your mother teach you it's rude not to wear clothes in public?"
"What, you mean this?" Ryn points to his naked chest. "I'll have you know there are a least ten females in this hall who find my lack of clothing highly attractive."
"Well, fortunately for both of us, I'm not one of them."

"Was that...me?"
Nate grins. "I don't know. Do you usually break branches while making out with guys."

"I feel...like I'm radiating magic out of every pore."
"Awesome. Shall we see how many more branches we can bring down?"

Rating: 5/5

  2. Hey! Thanks for no spoilers!

But let's be honest: I probably won't be able to start this series for quite some time.

    1. Yup I figured a lot of people haven't had the chance to start the series yet so I kept the review really simple so you could still get a taste of what it is about and where it is going without being spoiled. I know reading piles are so huge. I have so many series I am trying to get to. This one is short and fast so it can be squeezed in very easily which I love.

  3. "I'll have you know there are a least ten females in this hall who find my lack of clothing highly attractive." You can make that eleven females, Rhyn :') The cover for this IS gorgeous, Jen -- I love her gloves! They remind me a little of curse workers, which is definitely a good thing ;) I'm adding this series to my TBR pile now because they sound like such a fun way to lose a few minutes! And Nate sounds adorably charming!

Amazing review, Jen! Thanks so much for telling me about this series :) <3

haha Right?! I loved that quote! Ryn is hysterical! I just love snarky guys, not always as love interests but at least thrown in to entertain me. When you get the chance I hope you enjoy them. Very fun way to lose a few minutes indeed!

    3. I also love humorous characters that can make light of some situations. Nate's way of dealing with learning about fairies is to make some pretty funny jokes about them and I would probably do the same. I hope you enjoy them when you get a chance to read them and thanks for stopping by!
