Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating, barely, and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.
Then she meets Caleb. She saves his life and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing but she is supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.
They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive.
Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.
Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

Maggie has had a rough past year. Her mom left, her dad lost his job and has been really depressed, her boyfriend of three years broke up with her a year ago right when her mom left, and her grades went down so she isn't headed to college. On graduation night she wants to finally have some fun so she agrees to go out with Kyle, who has been asking her out all year. While walking to his house she saves a cute boy named Caleb, from being hit by a car, who also happens to be Kyle's cousin. Maggie walks with him to Kyle's house and right before she leaves to go on a date with Kyle, she shakes hands with Caleb. The touch causes them to imprint and she sees visions of their future together.

The imprinting thing is a little bit like Twilight and there are even jokes about it mentioned in the book. It does have quite a few differences too though. Caleb and Kyle are of a supernatural species. When their species find their mate, they imprint, and then they ascend and receive their power. If they don't imprint then they don't ascend. But no one from their family has ascended in many years and very few have imprinted on a human, especially so young. Maggie is only 17 and Caleb is 19. This becomes a very big deal and Caleb's family, the Jacobson clan, is very excited for them. The Jacobson's are also worried because it is a difficult transition for a human to go through. Humans enjoy their independence and having a Significant takes a lot of that away.

The imprinting is intense. They can read each other's minds, feel each other's reactions, and being apart causes them physical pain. Literally they feel pain and withdrawals when they are apart. It's supernatural and I get it but at times it becomes a bit extreme for me. If she goes one night without him then she gets sick. This becomes problematic with her father. Usually the imprinting happens at an older age and the couple gets married right away. Her father and friends think she is crazy since she has to spend everyday with a boy she just met. His touch also calms her and can keep enemies away. There is an enemy family that is very upset with their imprint and Marcus enters Maggie's dreams and tries to harm her. At one point she is kidnapped and four days without his touch puts Maggie in extreme pain.

I found the book extremely addicting. I felt like there could have been a little more to it than the romance though. I can go with the flow of a heavy dysfunctional romance but this one pushed my limits a tiny bit. I felt like them having to constantly be together and touch was a bit annoying at times, yet I couldn't stop reading it. But if you are not into heavy romance with the I can't eat, can't sleep without you concept then this book probably won't be for you. I also prefer a little more free will. I didn't like that they didn't really get into what would happen if Maggie wanted out. It sounded like there was no way out. What if she wanted to go away on vacation by herself? Also can someone please get Kyle a Significant? lol That poor boy broke my heart. You all know how I have a soft spot for the guy left behind and I felt really bad for him. He loved Maggie and had wanted to go out with her for so long and then she imprinted with his cousin. Even though the romance was a little extreme for my usual likings, I've already started the second book.

"I saw something in you that I couldn't live without. I chose you, inside of me, and you chose me. It's not one sided, it only works when both people choose the other. You are perfect for me in every way."

"Because you are my significant, my soul mate. And I'm yours."

"But... we will always be drawn together. We'll always crave each other. We'll always be in tune with each other, physically and mentally. There is nothing that can change or break that. And even if there was, I wouldn't want to. Not for the world."

"Why not get married and get started on your life?"
"You’ve thought about this already, haven’t you?"
"Of course I have. Caleb leaned to hover over me on his elbows and looked seriously at me. “I’ve thought about it every since you first touched me and I knew you were mine."

Rating: 4/5 Stars!

  1. I love this series. As you get further in, you notice their "need" to touch less obvious. I felt bad for Kyle too, but don't worry. My favorite in the series so far is Defiance. A lot of things happen in Accordance though too. Look forward to seeing your review on that one too!

    1. Oh good I hope Kyle meets someone! lol And thank goodness their need to touch calms down. I liked the idea okay but it was mentioned a few too many times for my liking. But the imprinting concept was interesting and even though I was annoyed and kept trying to put it down, I couldn't. I wanted more so it worked out. Interested to see where the series goes next.

  2. More and more people keep posting reviews about this series and I honestly have no idea why I haven't started it yet! The covers make me smile because I know that they're the same models from JLA's Lux series, but it's that cool imprinting thing (which is admittedly like Twilight, but not at all in a bad way!) that makes me really intrigued! And even though the romance felt a little extreme, I'm sure I'd be too addicted to care much! x)

Amazing review, Jennifer! I'm drowning in books already, so what's one more? ;) <3

    1. I know the couple on the cover have been on the cover of over 35 books! LOL They are popular! Yeah the imprinting is kind of like Twilight but I like Twilight so it's okay. As long as you like extreme romances then I would totally recommend this book. I've heard of a lot of people that have LOVED it. I really enjoyed it. I'm pretty easy going but I'm not into too extreme insta-love types of relationships. They do build a nice relationship it was just that the need to touch and be near each other so much kind of bugged me. CCan't wait to see what you think of it when you get around to it. I understand about the giant book pile! I have so much to read.

  3. I'll definitely think about this one. I'm not always opposed to the Insta-Love/Destined For Each Other concept. And when you think about it, teen love definitely can be the "can't sleep/eat/breathe without you" variety.
    Thanks for the review!

    1. haha yeah teen love is intense. Well love at any age can be intense. They had a good relationship build. While she did feel instantly connected she does spend some time getting used to him and getting to know him. It was just the extreme need to touch and spend every minute together that started to get annoying. It was an interesting romance.

  4. I keep hearing what an amazing series this is. The imprint and need to be together puts me in mind of another book (not Twilight!). I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the bits that annoyed you. Great review!

    1. There are quite a few similarities to Twilight but not so closely similar that it bothered me. Just the extreme need to touch got kind of annoying but it has calmed down in the second book. But Caleb is rich and really wants to take care of Maggie who doesn't want any money spent on her. It reminds a lot of people of Bella and Edward and in some ways it was similar but I felt like they were different. I hope you enjoy it!

  5. This sounds pretty interesting. I kind of giggled when you mentioned imprinting cause I remembered when Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. I think I'll definitely get a copy of this :)

    1. haha yea I giggled with the imprinting. At least the author jokes about it and mentions Twilight and even has some Harry Potter jokes. It's a little bit similar but is definitely an interesting concept to throw into a relationship. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for visiting!

  6. Oh my! This has been added to next month's book budget. I have to read this in an extremely desperate way. In a lot of ways it sounds like an extremely unhealthy, co dependent relationship, but then again I was in one of those with my best friend (it was non romantic) and it wasn't all bad. I still love him more than anyone save God.

Thanks for turning me onto this!

    1. Yeah it kind of feels extreme and unhealthy but it's fiction so I just go with it. Guilty pleasures are always a must! It was an interesting relationship and addicting story. Hope you enjoy it!

  7. I enjoyed this one too! I love the romance between Maggie and Caleb, but just like you Jennifer felt so bad for Kyle. He waited so long to get a date with Maggie :( I hope he will find someone in the next book :)
