This is a stand alone novel that is an adult spin-off
of the Lux Series.
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?
I have really enjoyed the Lux series so far so I was happy to see it spiced up in an adult novel. It was also great to see things from the Arum POV. During the Lux series we believe all Arum are killers and in this book I was rooting for the Arum. Serena's best friend saw a Luxen do something they shouldn't and killed her for it. Serena has to go into protective custody with Hunter who works for the government. The two of them are on the run from basically everyone.
Hunter has a bit of a snarky attitude and ego like Daemon. He also has to fight his Arum side when he is around Serena because he does have the urge to suck away her life force. Serena thinks it's worth it since Hunter is delicious. He protects her when he doesn't have to so she puts a lot of trust into him and Hunter works to live up to her expectations. This is adult so we get lots of steamy sex scenes. J. Lynn is great with the smexy stuff!
There was a good amount of background so you could read this without reading the Lux series, but if you have read the Lux series then you may appreciate all the extra background and peaks of what is to come in Origin. Daemon also has a tiny cameo. The plot was a bit simple and mostly revolved around all the sexual tension. I would recommend it for a fast smexy read and especially if you have read the Lux series.
"That's an alien. I'm an alien. We're aliens. Aliens everywhere, actually, which is why we have to leave."
"Are you done acting like a psychotic, cracked-out Muppet baby? Or do you need a couple more moments to return to sanity. I have all day. And you actually feel kind of good under me, so take your time."
Rating: 4/5
Fast, smexy and by JLA all sonds like a winner to me. I just bought.
