Welcome to Sparkstone University, where some students are more gifted than others.
When Ingrid learns she’s been accepted at the hyper-secretive Sparkstone University, she is sceptical. It’s an honour to attend, apparently, and yet barely anyone has ever heard of the place.
And everyone seems a little too happy that she’s there: especially when she meets Sunni and her group of friends. They seem to already know Ingrid. As if she was expected. Expected to save Earth from an imminent alien invasion. Like she has superpowers or something.
As if magic and mutations exist. As if aliens are really planning to attack.
That just sounds ridiculous. There’s no such thing.
…right?
Wrong.
Ingrid has been accepted to a school she never even applied to. They recruit only the best and brightest and she is excited to start the new boarding school. The school is located in a small town in the middle of nowhere and it feels a little off. There was the blood test prick in the door knob. A student warning her not to ear the food. Then there was a maintenance worker with tentacles. Ingrid knows she is not going crazy but only her small group of friends seem to know what is going on.
A few of her classmates have powers like Sunni can see the future in her dreams, Wil has strong mind abilities, Misty can shoot fire, and Jia can make herself and others invisible. All students carry a gene that the aliens want. They wonder what powers Ingrid have because she is wanted desperately. More glob like aliens than ever before are invading the school. Ingrid has to take on a new role that maybe the school is invaded by aliens.
For a large part of the book I was unsure who to trust at the school. Ingrid's friends and teachers all seem suspicious. Also Ingrid's new crush Ethan seems to be more oblivious than the others and I wondered why that was. Only a select few of the students seem to know about the school. The rest just live oblivious. Half the book was a great set up and then the next half was a lot of action. There was only a tiny bit about Ingrid being an important key part for the aliens and I am curious to learn more about that in the next book.
"It's my accent, isn't it? Always messes with the ladies' heads. Makes them..." He trails off, and his face turns a shade as dark as my hair.

I like the sound of Wil, and the mystery sounds like it keeps you guessing.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds creepy. I think this is the first review I've seen for this one.
ReplyDeleteI am not big on the sci fi genre in general but this one sounds good and creepy!
