He makes good girls...bad.
Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.
Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:
Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.
Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.
Dante Walker's job is to put seals on people for the bad things they have done. When people have enough seals their soul can be collected. Dante loves his job and why shouldn't he? He makes sure bad souls go to the right place and he gets to look good while doing it. Then his boss sends him after Charlie's soul. Charlie is an awkward, frizzy haired, lime green back pack wearing mess. Dante's suave Versace wearing, Escalade driving awesomeness should be able to turn her bad in no time. Seals galore then collect her soul. Except Charlie is so sweet and Dante can't help but start to feel guilty and protective.
I love being inside Dante's head. Some would say he is a douche but I still found him likable. I felt he was more brutally honest than mean. In his head he thought some terrible things but he would never say them and when others did he would get mad. He is very matter of fact. He is awesome and others need help to be as awesome as he is. LOL But really it came off more hilarious and honest than douchey, at least to me. Dante also had a ton of character growth. For most of his career he puts seals on people who did bad things. I don't think anyone made him think twice about his actions until Charlie.
At first I thought Charlie was an odd love interest and that I wouldn't really feel chemistry between them but my mind changed quickly. Charlie was so unbelievably good that Dante felt bad every time he tried to make her do wrong. Often he would end up wanting to protect her. He couldn't understand why anyone would be mean to someone so innocent. It was adorable. Dante went from wanting Charlie to change to missing the old her when she did. He saw her inner beauty.
The story got a little bit slow for me about 3/4 through. Dante begins really pondering what he should do about collecting Charlie's soul. If he can't bring her in then someone else might. The big reveal at the end didn't pack as big of a punch for me as I would have liked because I didn't feel like I got to know the other collectors and characters well enough to care who was behind messing with Dante. Still an exciting conclusion and the story wraps up well with no cliffhanger. Dante has big changes ahead of him and I am dying to see how he handles them. I loved the unique take on demons and angels, the quirky romance, and of course the deliciously suave and hilarious Dante!
"There's a security guard, like, ten feet away. I could have you kicked out of here."
"For what? Being awesome?"
"She's nervous. And she should be. I doubt this girl has ever visited first base...or even been to a game."
Rating: 4/5

ReplyDeleteI agree, I loved his thoughts. And it was so funny when he got mad at those 2 characters and said something like he's the only one allowed to be judgmental. lol. I hope he doesn't change TOO much in the net book though. I love his bad ways.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to meet Dante myself, thought I love that his is a complete...you know what :) I prefer the alpha type males of his in the books. Thought love it !!
