Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…
Avery wanted a fresh start at a new college. Running late to her first class she plows into Cam. Her friends say now she should let him plow her. Cam also happens to live right down the hall. But Avery doesn't date. She has never had a boyfriend and wants to just be friends. A terrible past is holding her back. Cam begins asking her out constantly for months. Avery wants to give him a chance even though she is scared for anyone to know her past. She thinks they will never look at her the same.
I loved Cam. He was never a bad boy or a player. Sweet and dedicated to Avery from the beginning. Avery constantly pushes him away but he is always there for her. He is careful and takes their relationship slow. Cam waits for Avery to trust him. He is a bit cocky but in a fun and joking way, most of the time. I mean he is sexy and he knows it. LOL But he only wants Avery and always says the right things. Like everyone he also has made mistakes but he owns them. He also has the cutest pet ever. ;-)
Avery has a devastating past that was really difficult to read about. It was completely understandable why it would be so hard for her to move on especially since her awful parents never spoke of her problems and never got her any help. They just pretended it never happened. That made things so much worse and so sad. Opening up about something like that would not be easy so I understood why it took her so long to let Cam in. Not to mention all the harassment she receives and everyone in high school ditched her. This fresh start in college was good for her because she has friends and Cam who support her. It is still a hard journey but they helped her work through it.
I've read many new adult books lately so the plot wasn't super unique but the characters and writing were addicting and fun. Even though it deals with a lot of difficult issues I loved the banter between Cam and Avery and the way their relationship started out with friendship. Spending quality time with Raphael and Chinese food with milk. I'm with Avery in that Cam is extremely gross to like milk with Chinese food. The secondary characters were so much fun also. I loved Can's roommate Ollie, and Avery's friends Jacob and Brit. There were fun scenes on top of all the emotional ones so the pacing was perfect. I'm a big fan of books with characters overcoming obstacles to get to their happy ending and this is a great book for any new adult romance fan.
"That could've become the best ice breaker in history. Like you two could fall madly in love and you get to tell everyone how you plowed him before he actually plowed you."
"I froze as a guy stumbled out, laughing as he set a tortoise--what the fuck?--on the floor. The thing stuck its head out, looked around, and then disappeared into its shell."
"You want to say yes, but you're just not ready."
My jaw dropped.
"It's okay." His grin turned cocky. "I'm a lot to handle, but I can assure you, you'll have fun handling me."
"Don't you have anyone else to bother?"
"There are a shit ton of people that I could reward with my presence, but I chose you."
"Well, that was... really sort of perfect."
"I'm really sort of perfect," he replied, gently untangling my legs. He sat me on the floor and I would've fallen right over if he hadn't held on. "Everyone else knows that. You're just a little slow on the uptake."

So excited to read this book! Love the cover and I just know I'm going to love the story :)
ReplyDeleteI've only read one review so far and i was immediately interesed. JLA's writing is always addictive so I totally believe it about this book as well. Avery and Cam sound like such wonderful and complex characters - well, maybe Cameron more wonderful and Avery more complex. I expect it to be a bit predictable now, thanks for the warning.
ReplyDeleteFantastic review.
I love wait for you. I love anythin JLA writes is addicting :D
ReplyDeleteCam is wonderful! Thanks for being part of the tour.

I was just talking to a friend about how a lot of NA books have very similar plots but they are still good and addictive. I may have to pick this one up at some point. :)
ReplyDeleteThe book was AWESOME. How can anyone not fall in love with Cam? I want my own Cam now ;D

ReplyDeleteLove the excerpt with the tortoise!! LOVE turtles and Cam sounds so so hot:)
Lovely review! I KNOW I have to get my hands on this one:)
Thank you:)
I am in total agreement w/oh on this one! A lot of NA books are similar, but as long as an author can make it their own, that's fine. CAM IS WONDERFUL! So awesome to have a fun, cocky guy who is NICE. He was perfect.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Jennifer!
I know lots of books have a lot of similarities and it usually doesn’t bother me but the thing that got to me specifically was that this was ANOTHER NA book with a girl that has been sexually abused in the past. I think I’ve read too many of those already and I’m kind of getting tired of them.
ReplyDeleteAnyway Cam was so awesome! You know I usually like the jerk book boys but Cam totally won me over. I loved the chemistry and the slow friendship they had.
LOVE the quotes you picked!
Great review! I thought this was a great book, as well :)
ReplyDeleteI <3 this book so much! Amazing!! Love turtles, too!!

ReplyDeleteI'm actually reading Wait For You right now, and I'm really liking it! Cam is so freaking adorable. <3 :)
ReplyDeleteI do agree that many NA books tend to be very similar, but I absolutely love when an author can make it their own. That definitely makes me want to read it. Thanks for the review! I'll be adding this to my TBR list! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I bought it and I'm going to start it today! I'm so excited!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Cam is the best! Yes, a lot of the NA books tend to focus on the same thing, but I'm glad Jen made hers a bit unique and I loved Avery & Cam's banter. Plus, Jacob was freaking awesome! Great review!

ReplyDeleteI loved this book!! It has great characters and I find the story really moving :)
ReplyDeleteAw, this sounds good. Even if her past is tough to read about. I'd love to read this book. Great review Jennifer.
