Blog Tour ~ Fear Anthology Interview, Dream Cast + Giveaway!

Welcome to my stop on the Fear Anthology blog tour hosted by Book Me!
Just in time for Halloween!
FEAR: A Modern Anthology of Horror and Terror brings together, for the first time, tales of murder, monsters and madness, by sixty of the world’s best indie horror authors.
I have an interview and dream cast with one of the authors of the anthology as well as a giveaway!

Interview with Duncan Jones

1. Without going all spoilery on us, can you tell us a little about Dave and the Raven.

It is set in the historic English city of Lincoln. Though blessed with a medieval cathedral and castle the story takes the reader to the unheralded settings of a curry house, DIY super store and children’s play centre. Do not be fooled…There are vampires about, or is that just Dave’s imagination.

2. What was the inspiration behind this story?

I wanted to write a vampire story but not a sexy Twighlight one. A more down to earth tongue in cheek one. Perhaps getting rubbished by your mates, going to DIY shops and children’s soft play centres neatly summarised my life at the time and I “wrote what I knew”.

3. How did you become involved in the FEAR anthology?

I heard about it through a post on the ether writers’ community.

4. Describe your protagonist in three words.

Doubted by friends

5. What is your favourite part of the writing process?

Putting unexpected things together and seeing where they go next.

6. Who is your favourite author? And why?

It is a draw between John Steinbeck and Jeanette Winterson. Steinbeck is so non-judgemental and celebrates everyday humanity. Read the bit in Cannery Row about catching the frogs sheer bliss. Winterson plays with ideas, explores emotions and uses language so concisely. Her auto biography is very moving.

7. Did anyone ever tell you not to quit your day job? If so, is there a special message you'd like to send them now that you're a published author?

I’ll save that for if I ever pay off the mortgage from writing, then I’ll really let go!

8. If you could have dinner with any one of your characters who would it be? And what on earth would you say?

I guess I already have because Bert and Jas’ are based on two of my mates that I have had numerous curries with over the years.

9. If you could choose just one book to leave for future generations, what would it be?

Maus by Art Spiegelman

10. Is FEAR your writing debut? If not, can you tell us a little about your previous work? What can we expect from you in the future?

I have had a number of stories published on the ether app, Alfie dog publishing and in Structo magazine.

11. And finally, the Apocalypse is here. The world has been overrun with Zombies or Vampires or some other freakish thing that wants to chow down on humanity. Before the human race is completely eradicated you get to save two literary legends (don't ask me why you can only save bookish people, I don't make the rules) who do you save?

As above Steinbeck and Winterson

Dream Cast

Dave And The Raven
by Duncan Jones
‘Dave And The Raven’ is set in the historic English city of Lincoln. Though blessed with a medieval cathedral and castle the story takes the reader to the unheralded settings of a curry house, DIY super store and children’s play centre.

Do not be fooled…

There are vampires about, or is that just Dave’s imagination.

Cast list:

Dave: Early 20’s largish build (no gym freak)
Played by Nick Frost

Lisa: A worker at B and Q and a vampire
Played by Karen Gillan

Martin: A worker at B and Q also a vampire
Played by Richard Avoade

Neen: Dave’s Co-worker at Crazy Bongos (hair/ piercings a bit alternative)
Played by Pippa Middleton
(In her first and frankly rather unexpected acting role.)

Manager at B and Q: Head vampire
A cameo appearance by Jarvis Cocker
Looking resplendent in a B and Q fleece

Bert: One of Dave’s mates.
Played by Sean Pegg

Jas’: Another of Dave’s mates.
Played by Simon Farnaby
(The one who plays death in Horrible Histories)

With music by Besh O drom
(Quality Hungarian musical madness)

So there you go that is my dream cast! If I am allowed a director please can I have Kevin Smith and if Neil Gaiman was available I’d like him to advise on the screenplay. Not much to ask! Oh and if you are wondering B and Q is a DIY retailer Cheers Duncan

Duncan is found nearer a pint than a cocktail and according to his wife is nearer to being a geek than ever being cool. He writes a range of fiction and poetry some of which can be found on the ether app http://etherbooks.com/, Alfie dog http://alfiedog.com/ and at http://molethepoet.com/ He sporadically and frankly ineffectually tweets @writingmole
