A modern-day retelling of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with a chilling twist.
Harper has never been worried about falling in love, something she is skeptical even exists. But everything changes when Logan moves to town, and to Harper's shock, the two tumble into an intense romance. It's everything she never thought she wanted. Then she meets Logan's twin brother, Daemon, who was expelled from his last school. True, he's a bad boy, but Harper can't shake the feeling that there's something deeply sinister about him--something dangerous. When Logan starts pulling away, Harper is convinced that Daemon's shadowy past is the wedge being driven between them. But by the time she uncovers the truth, it may be too late. The author of Prada & Prejudice, You Wish, and Ripple delivers a modern-day retelling of a famously gothic tale, full of suspense, lies, and romance.   ADD TO GOODREADS

I love Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde retellings so I was immediately intrigued with this book. Harper has just began dating Logan who is recently new to town. He is very sweet, kind, swoon worthy, and a perfect boyfriend to Harper. They really understand each other since Harper lost her mom and Logan lost both of his parents. Everything is perfect between them until one night Logan has to take off in a hurry and has Harper's purse in his car. Harper decides to drop by his house to pick it up and unknowingly meets Daemon. Daemon is cruel and evil to Harper and she runs out of the house planning to never speak to Logan again.

Logan then has to confess he has an evil twin brother. Poor Logan. He never wanted to have to tell Harper about him because Daemon has been ruining his life forever. Harper is mad he lied but doesn't want to judge Logan by his evil brother. But as mysterious spooky things keep happening and also a couple of suspicious injuries occur, Harper thinks it's time to investigate what is really going on with Daemon and why they had to move. Those that were actually looking forward to this because of the implied love triangle will be disappointed. No love triangle occurs which made me very happy. Daemon is completely psycho and Harper wants nothing to do with him.

I don't have too much to say about this one. It was a creepy and fast read but a bit predictable which is expected with retellings. I loved Logan and felt really bad for him. I wanted him to be my boyfriend. He truly loved Harper and was trying so hard to have a chance to be happy. His circumstances were horrible. I wasn't too impressed with the ending either. It wasn't happy or sad and it left things a bit open. Definitely still worth a read. Not a life changer but it held my attention well and I enjoyed the romance and horror.

"I blush. How can he call me beautiful when he's dressed like that and I'm in torn blue jeans and an old Darigold T-shirt? When my nickname is DQ and his might as well be GQ?"

He steps closer and touches my chin with his pointer finger so that I look up at hm. "I really like being with you." And then he closes the gap, and we're standing there beside the bubbling geyser as his lips graze mine. The faintest flutter of a touch steals my breath away. My eyes slip shut and the world seems to give way beneath my feet.

  1. I told you I'd check out your review of this once you posted. Aww I was kind of hoping that Logan was the evil one and that Daemon had been taking the fall for everything. And that Harper and Daemon would fall in love along the way. (So I guess I was hoping for a love triangle). Oh well.

    1. Yeah I noticed a lot of comments on goodreads hoping this would be something like the Elena/Stefan/Damon love triangle so I thought I should warn that it is nothing like that. I was happy because I avoid love triangles like the plague but I was kind of expecting her to fall for both. It was a bit darker than I was expecting.

  2. This one sounds interesting. I've seen it around but didn't know it was a Jekyl and Hyde re-telling. I think I might give it a go. Awesome review :)

  3. Hmmm...well, I've never been interested in Jekyll and Hyde, so I'm not dying to read this.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, despite the predictability.
    Nice review!

    1. Yeah if you're not too into Jekyll and Hyde then it might not be your thing. If you like a fast read with some romance and then some scary action then you might enjoy it.

  5. OKAY, THAT'S IT. This book is officially bumped up onto my urgent to read pile! For one thing, the title just puts this huge smile on my face. For another thing, a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde re-telling? So cool! And for another ANOTHER thing, who can resist the promise of a good twin and an evil twin, especially if it isn't even a love interest? I love how Mandy Hubbard keeps one boy psychotic instead of trying to force it into a love triangle -- that's another reason for me to love her! ;)

Amazingly convincing review, Jen! :) <3

    1. I was very happy with her keeping the boys separate. Especially since Logan was such a great boyfriend it would have been sad if Harper fell for the evil Daemon. Jekyll and Hyde is a very interesting idea and makes a great retelling. I hope you enjoy it!

  6. I know, I don't like cliffhangers or open ending. It left kind of a question whether or not there was a paranormal aspect or not. I guess it's up to you to decide what you think happened. I prefer myself to just be told LOL

  7. This book sounds pretty good, I'll have to add it to my TBR! Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde? I like that it's a evil twin sort of thing, I'll have to give it a read and see how I like it.

    Great review!

  8. I Looove Mandy Hubbard's books! I'm really glad you got the arc and to read the story :D it sounds pretty amazing and I agree with you - No love triangles are better.

You should read Choker by Elizabeth Woods, also two girls, though not sisters, but one is completely psycho and it's really creepy and I really enjoyed it, maybe you'll like it too :)

    1. This is the first Mandy Hubbard book I've read. I've been meaning to read Ripple. Yes I always prefer no love triangle.
Oh yeah been meaning to read Choker. It was a YABC read. It sounded very much like Roommate and Single White Female. Being friends with a psycho girl.
