Love ties them together. Death can't tear them apart.

Best. Birthday. Ever. At least, it was supposed to be. With Logan's band playing a critical gig and Aura's plans for an intimate after-party, Aura knows it will be the most memorable night of her boyfriend's life. She never thought it would be his last.

Logan's sudden death leaves Aura devastated. He's gone.

Well, sort of.

Like everyone born after the Shift, Aura can see and hear ghosts. This mysterious ability has always been annoying, and Aura had wanted nothing more than to figure out why the Shift happened so she can undo it. But not with Logan's violet-hued spirit still hanging around. Because dead Logan is almost as real as ever. Almost.

It doesn't help that Aura's new friend Zachary is so understanding—and so very alive. His support means more to Aura than she cares to admit.

As Aura's relationships with the dead and the living grow ever complicated, so do her feelings for Logan and Zachary. Each holds a piece of Aura's heart...and clues to the secret of the Shift.

I have been told to read this book a million times! I kept meaning to but then it kept getting pushed back. I am so glad I finally buckled down and got it. I seriously balled my eyes out! What an emotional roller coaster!

Everyone born after the Shift can see ghosts. Aura was born one minute after the Shift, about sixteen years ago. Aura works for her aunt helping out with ghost rights but she is rather annoyed by ghosts. She wishes she could end the shift. But when Logan, her boyfriend and the love of all her life dies on his birthday, she begins to see the importance of ghost rights.

Oh how I loved Logan! He was the sweetest and cutest thing ever and just broke my heart into a million pieces. Everything he said to Aura drove me to the tissue box. Poor thing made one bad decision on his birthday that ended his life. He is now stuck as a violet colored ghost, only able to haunt the places he has already visited. He can't touch Aura or play his guitar or even talk to his parents since they were born before the Shift. This angers him and when ghosts get angry they risk turning Shade. Every quote said to Aura was so sweet and beautiful. I felt the love between these characters. I found their relationship realistic and heartwarming.

Aura is upset but feels like he is almost still with her. He hangs out in her room every night and they talk. But Aura can't touch him and her hot new research partner, Zach, is not helping matters. Zach is also super suspicious because it turns out Zach was born one minute before Aura and the Shift. Zach seems to know more about Aura than he first let on. Zach is sweet and patient. He is there supporting Aura hoping to move in on her. I do enjoy his character but Logan is clearly the guy for Aura.

Logan is not handling life after death and Aura's new shiny research partner well. He is at risk of turning Shade which has alerted the government. The government traps and holds dangerous ghosts. Logan wants to allow Aura and his family to move on so he decides it is time for him to move on. But when a ghost moves on before it is ready there can be consequences. It left a little bit of a cliff hanger so I am off to amazon to buy the next book right away! I must see what happens with Aura and Logan next!

Team Logan

“Honestly?” Logan shrugged. “I didn’t know it could kill me. If I’d ever heard that, I forgot it a long time ago. But I knew it was dangerous.”
“Then why take the risk?” Stone asked.
Logan turned his head to look at me. “Because she was worth it.”

“He whispered against my mouth. “Wait for me, Aura.”

“I know you're worried," Logan said. "You think the second I sign a deal, I'll turn into some kind of man-slut." He put his hands over mine, pressing my palms against his chest. "You've always been the only one, and you always will be.”

Rating: 5/5 Stars!

  1. Great review, Jennifer! I'll definitely check this book out when I get the chance. :)

    Wendy @ Escape Into Fiction

  2. I am so glad you hve finally read this...everyone should read it. These are wonderful books. Its hard not to be Team Logan, a sexy punk rocker who will love you way after death! I am anxiously awaking the third book like alot of people but I am also a bit saddened to think that Aura is going to have to choose someone and stick with it. I know I will be crying at the end of it!

  3. @Wendy Lohr Thanks! It is definitely worth picking up! I was surprised what an emotional read it was.

@Tee I'm already 62% done with Shift and I am once again balling. I am at Logan's journal entry and I had to take a break. He had written Aura's name with his last name a bunch of different ways. So sweet! Aura has to pick Logan! I just know he will come back to life or something! *crosses fingers*

  4. You know how I feel about this one. I was almost crying last night and did get a few tears when I read this review, especially the quotes. I'm so glad you loved it, and LOGAN!

  5. @Andrea @The Bookish Babes I was crying last night. Then today in the shower I started thinking about Logan again and started balling. I'm officially crazy. I kept telling myself calm down he's not real! I had to wait to write my Shift review because thinking about the end makes me cry. :-(

  6. You're killing me. I won't read the books anytime soon, but I'll read your reviews. I get sort of sad just reading them. (So I suppose you did a great job XD)

    1. They were soooooooooooooooooooo SAD! I had no idea I was going to cry like that!

  7. This book sounds so sad but really good at the same time. I want to read this book but I think I will wait until Shine comes out. That way the wait doesn't kill me.

    1. I hate waiting too! These books were super duper sad! I cried like crazy! They were really good though and a very interesting and unique ghost story.
