Trinity Hartell’s life changed after the accident. Left with irreversible brain damage, she becomes a burden to her mother, a cause for heartbreak for her boyfriend Zack, and a flattened obstacle for her best friend, Ellie.

But then she starts writing. Perhaps it’s a coincidence that the psychotic, murdering protagonist of her novel bears a striking similarity to the charming Wiley Dalton, a mayoral candidate in the upcoming election.

Or, perhaps not...

This book was not at all what I expected but I do mean that in a good way. It was very dark and creepy, which I do enjoy. It starts off with a super weird prologue that has you thinking what the heck is going on here? Then we learn about Ellie, her best friend Trinity, and Trinity's boyfriend Zack. They were in a car crash which left Trinity with severe brain damage. The book follows all their perspectives as well as the perspective of Trinity's parents and the evil mayor that Trinity's mom works for.

These characters are dealing with Trinity's tragic recovery. She is almost like a child again because of the brain damage. But then she begins writing very elaborate and gruesome stories. We know the mayor is in some crazy evil cult because we see his perspective. But the rest of the characters have no idea what is going on so they have to follow the clues and figure everything out.  I admit in the middle of the story, my attention slipped a little bit. Ellie chases Zack and Zack continues to chase Trinity, though she doesn't really remember him. Then the action and creep factor kicked back up and I was able to get back into it.

The characters were really surprising for me. At first we begin with Ellie and I keep thinking she has something going on with Zach. Then when I see Zack's perspective I know that he is completely in love with Trinity. It was really sad to see him struggle with everything. He was a sweet character. Ellie was not the best friend to Trinity but I still actually felt bad for her. I have a weak spot for characters that don't get the boy. The mayor was super scary. His scenes could be really gruesome. The action was good and I loved the ending because it was a little unexpected. It wasn't a perfect happily ever after ending but it wasn't completely sad either.

"Or what if Trinity is still trapped inside, somewhere, and this is her way of reaching me-us?'

Rating: 4/5 Stars!
