Evernight

Bianca wants to escape. She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in. Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him. "I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would." But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

Why I Picked This Up: Needed vampires! Reviews said it was good and many goodreads friends loved it.

Why You Should Read This: Interesting Vampire story with some hot characters. Very Hex Hall with vampires. This came out first but I read Hex Hall first so I felt like they were very similar.

Bianca is upset her parents are making her attend Evernight Academy. They plan to teach there and believe it will be a great opportunity for her. She longs to run away and even plans on pretending to do so because she wants her parents to change their minds. But she runs into Lucas who hates the school as much as she does. The first 100 pages mostly consist of her thoughts of him. She is dying to see him again but when she does he ignores her. Very slow beginning. She has some rude roommates and a lot of stuck up classmates. She longs for Lucas.

I didn't see much in Lucas at first. Why she so badly wanted him I didn't really understand. She makes friends with a new hot student Balthazar whom I loved! As the story progress we discover many hidden secrets about Evernight and it's students. Not everyone is who they seem to be. With one of the student's stalking Bianca's friend Raquel, Bianca is sure there is evil at the school. This book has quite a few surprises! I accidentally spoiled myself on the first one while reading reviews so I want to keep quiet for people that haven't read it but I thought it made for an interesting twist. The second surprise I totally saw coming but enjoyed. The end of the book picks up with some action. While not totally loving this book I found it enjoyable and plan to continue in the series with hopes of a bit more excitement and of course for more Balthazar!

"I apologized to her once for spending less time with her, but she blew it off. "You're in love. That makes you actually kind of boring to people who aren't in love. You know, the sane ones."

"People get stupid when they're in love; people want what they can't have; and the years between ages twelve and eighteen always, always suck."

RATING: 3/5 Fangs!

  7. Great review! I loved this book. i haven't read Hex Hall so i didn't see the similarity when I read it. At first i was afraid it would be a twilight knock off but then it had a twist that i personally didn't expect. I also met the author and she was awesome! did you know Claudia Gray isn't her real name? She thought it would be fun to pick a new name for her books.

  8. I loved this book, especially due to the unexpected turn it took when certain things were revealed *ahem* I have to admit that it took me by surprise because I'm almost always prepared for surprises in books and can practically tell what's going to happen next, but this one really surprised me. I love Balthazar too:)

  9. @Christie Cote I didn't know that she chose that name! Interesting. It was very different from Twilight with quite a few twists! I need to get the second book soon!

  10. I found the book enjoyable. I actually read reviews and stuff before I read the book so I found out some spoilers beforehand! If I hadn't, I would have been shocked by the twists! I still haven't read the 4th and final book in the series, but I have the book. I just have a large reading pile!

  14. I felt the same way, I didn't understand the appeal of Lucas at first, didn't understand her great need of him. Then of course he ignores her, which angers me!!!! Which made me dislike him lol. And I completely agree with you about Balthazar! Hot name too ;) I read the second book, Stargazer, but it turned me off to the series a bit, so I haven't gotten around to Hourglass yet. But I definitely will get there. I have an insatiable need to know what happens no matter if I liked it or not haha.

    1. Oh I know, I hate when the boy ignores the girl and then she still wants him and pines for him. Balthazar was so sweet and good to her. I would have been all over him and forgot about Lucas. It was a bit insta~lovey to me. Great name indeed! I also have a need to find out what happens even though I can kind of guess and it's not really want I want. lol

  15. ooh. I could totally go fro a fun vampire book right now. I haven't read one in AGES, so I'll definitely look into finding a copy of this. And THANK YOU for not spoiling it. I hate when I think I'm reading something un-spoilerish and then *boom* book ruined.
