WOW #62

I'm waiting on

 Absent

Absent by Katie Williams
Release Date May 21st 2013

Forever is a long time to be stuck in high school.

Seventeen-year-old Paige is dead, the victim of a freak fall from the roof during Physics class. Now she’s a ghost, permanently bound to the grounds of her high school. It isn’t all bad, she can find out everyone’s secrets, which can be amusing—for a while. But then Paige hears something that isn’t amusing at all: the rumor spread by the most popular girl at school that her death wasn’t an accident—that she supposedly jumped on purpose. Paige is desperate to stop the gossip, but what can a ghost do? Then Paige discovers something amazing. She can possess living people when they think of her, and she can make them do almost anything. Maybe, just maybe, she can get inside the girl who’s responsible for the stories. . . and have a little fun turning the tables while she’s at it.

Katie Williams’s second novel is a suspenseful page-turner full of eerie wit and a touch of the otherworldly.

Why I'm Waiting?
I have a love/hate relationship with ghost books since they often don't have happy endings but this one sounds pretty interesting. Possessing people and having some fun while at it. Some of the reviews I've read already make it sound really intriguing.

  8. Oh man, this sounds totally and utterly amazing. The things I would do if I could possess people while dead in high school? Omg, I'm doing to die with glee from just the idea! Awesome pick this week.

  9. I totally agree w/u. I am not a huge fan of ghost stories either, and this one does sound more like a revenge type book, I'm wondering if I'll be into it?

  13. It would be horrible to be stuck in high school, whether dead or alive....this blurb has me very tempted.

  25. This is a new one to me! I do love ghost stories, though I know what you mean about not the HEAs. This sounds interesting though. Great pick! :)

  26. I don’t think I’ve read a ghost story with a happy ending either. I guess the only happy ending would be for the ghost to become human but that’s not realistic. Maybe they can find another ghost lover ;)
This one kind of reminds me of The Unquiet (I think that’s what it’s called. The one girl the girl you can see up her nostrils).
Hadn’t heard of this one but it sounds good…and creepy.

  27. Ghost stories don't always work for me. I don't mind the non-happy endings, but things are so unresolved. This one might actually give closure to the ghost in question. My favorite ghost/possesion book is A Certain Slant of Light, but the possesion messed with the lives of the living. I wonder how this will deal with that? Nice pick!

  30. I love the antique-ness of this cover! It looks old, but obviously, it's not. II have read a few ghost books, and I would like to read a few more, so I can't really say whether I really like them or not. Sounds good to me though!

  32. Oh this one is going on my list! I love revenge books!! As long as the ghost isn't too scary I don't mind, but I bet this one learns some lessons and dare I say has some character growth! I haven't heard of this author, but I'll check her out on Goodreads.

  42. Hmmm... the blurb makes it sound a little more funny than the cover would suggest. I'm interested in seeing which way this book swings if it's just dark or more of a black comedy. Good choice! :)
